Bahrain. The FIA WEC season finale took place in Bahrain on Saturday. The AF Corse trio around Christoph Ulrich, Simon Mann and Toni Vilander tackled the eight-hour race distance in the #21 car.
Qualifying was promising on the 5,412-kilometer track. In the GTE AM class, the Ferrari 488 GTE claimed the seventh starting position. The sixth round of the year again promised exciting overtaking maneuvers, strong fights and action for the fans. The special vehicle design in the national colors was also impressive.
In the end, the team just missed out on the top ten and crossed the finish line in eleventh place after 225 laps.
In total, Christoph Ulrich, Toni Vilander and Simon Mann scored 28 points this FIA WEC season. They celebrated their greatest success with their Ferrari 488 GTE at the legendary long-distance classic, the 24h race of Le Mans.
“The race weekend actually started quite promising with P2 in FP1, but for some reason we didn’t manage to improve the performance, so we lost more and more to the rivals. The race was disappointing, I had a great start from P7 to P3, but then I was pushed off twice by competitors, not the nicest way, but that’s the way it is. The second stint went better, I handed over the car in P8, but we just couldn’t push anymore and there’s nothing to talk about. Since Fuji, there has been an issue somewhere and we have to sort that out now”, said Christoph Ulrich.
